Dreams. My entire life they have been cultivated. Some accomplished, others rewritten. However, it is in the process of pursuing dreams that personal growth happens. When God breathes a dream into your soul, you won’t be able to let it go- you will chase it until God’s purpose has been fulfilled. And dream chasing is only relevant if it is rooted in God’s calling on your life.
Ambition is a gift. It gives you permission to let the hard times serve as a little reminder that it is possible to chase your dreams. To change your life. To settle for more. I would be lying to you if I didn’t cue you in on this little secret: insecurity keeps pace with ambition. But good thing it’s not up to us…
For we are God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do. (Ephesians 2:10)
So instead of letting insecurity win, we must silence the chorus of critics, and make the choice to keep our eyes open and our heart expectant. Adventure awaits as we chase our dreams because we are…
For we know, brothers and sisters loved by God, that he has chosen you. (1 Thessalonians 1:4)
Every fiber of our being was crafted by our Creator and we have been chosen to complete special assignments intended to glorify our God. If you are hesitant to expose or enjoy a dream, let this first truth settle in your soul: you have been chosen for this dream and this is the time to give your faith feet and see what God has in store.
Given the very best gifts from God specifically for our dream
A gift opens the way and ushers the giver into the presence of the great. (Proverbs 18:16)
As Elevation Worship sings, “He makes a way where there is no way.” If your dream is rooted in God’s calling on your life, He will make it happen. The strength, courage, and clarity you desire will without a doubt be provided for your entire journey if you remain receptive to all He has to offer.
Tested and tried to increase dependency and intimacy
Because you know that the testing of your faith produces perseverance. (James 1:3)
It is in our selfish independency that we run into trials. When we forge our own path or formulate our own avenues, we are tested. It is when we come to the end of ourselves and realize we cannot accomplish any goal without our God that we turn from our own ways and return to Him. This will then increase our dependency, knowing we cannot go about this dream chasing alone. We must allow Christ to inspire our endurance as we invite Him to join us on our journey. Naturally, we will create a more meaningful, intimate relationship with Him.
Now may the God of peace…equip you with everything good for doing his will, and may he work in us what is pleasing to him. (Hebrews 13:20-21)
God will either provide the way in or the road out. If our dreams align with His purpose and plan, He will equip us with every good thing we need to accomplish His will for our lives. On the contrary, God will also pick us up and take us away from our dream if it is not pleasing to Him.
Directed in the way of the dream
I will instruct you and teach you in the way you should go; I will counsel you with my loving eye on you. (Psalm 32:8)
When God instructs us and teaches us in the way we should go, we find our why. Wrapped in His love, we determine what it will take to make our wildest dreams a reality. What a sweet gift it is that God never lets us out of His sight. Even in the twists and turns, God is still there, cheering us on and establishing the way ahead.
Confirmed through other dreamers
Therefore, my brothers and sisters, make every effort to confirm your calling and election. (2 Peter 1:10)
We are all dreamers. Yet some of us are too scared to follow our wildest dreams because we let our doubt and the opinions of others fuel our fear. Can I share with you something I have learned as I follow this writing dream of mine? Those who are unselfishly supportive truly care about the cultivation of your dream. They ask questions. They support your work. And through them, God confirms that your work, words, dreams, and ambitions are exactly what He has in store just for you.
Tuned in to the timing of God’s purpose
Be confident of this, that he who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus. (Philippians 1:6)
Establishing a partnership with God and His purposes is the only way we will see our dreams through to completion. Only God knows the timetable for our dreams. They may last for only a season, or we may be on this dream journey for the rest of our lives. Whatever the case may be, one thing is for sure: we will always be on a journey of dreams until God’s purpose is fulfilled.
Determine your dream and don’t look back. When you invite God to be in the driver’s seat of your dreams, you develop a deeper and stronger soul tie with Him- one that allows you to dance to the beat of His drum and not to the chorus of critics. With His plans written in the stars and inscribed in your heart, allow each step of your journey to lead you where He needs you to be. Dream bigger. Be better. Settle for more. I am cheering you on and praying your wildest dreams come true.
